BURNET – The Brownwood Lady Lions put the finishing touches on their pre-district volleyball schedule Tuesday night with a four-set 25-15, 25-9, 19-25, 25-23 road triumph over the Burnet Lady Bulldogs.
“We’ve been working through a few kinks and tonight I thought it came together,” said Lady Lions third-year head coach Allison Smith, whose team hosts Stephenville at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the District 6-4A opener. “We faced some hardships in the third and fourth sets and made some mistakes I’d rather not make, but overall I’m proud of the fight and intensity the girls had coming into this game. I’m looking forward to Friday and so is the team.”
The Lady Lions (16-6) were fueled by a 16-kill performance from both Olivia Fowler and Tessa Goodwin, along with seven kills from Jaylen Savage, five from Gracie Boswell, four from Jordan Northcutt, and two from Kylie Morris.
Kylie Wooten distributed 25 assists while Goodwin chipped in 14 and Fowler and Kassidy Wooten were both credited with one.
Fowler and Kassidy Wooten served a pair of aces while Boswell delivered one.
Defensively, Morris notched 24 digs trailed by Boswell with 22, Kassidy Wooten with 16, Kylie Wooten with 10, Fowler with eight, Goodwin with five, Molly Oliver with two and Savage, Northcutt, Ava Choate, and Ashlyn Harris with one apiece.
At the net, Goodwin tallied three blocks while Morris finished with one.
