Hubert Rutherford, age 68, and Gerri Rutherford, age 65, of Novice, died Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Hendrick Medical Center South in Abilene.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 4, 2021, at the Silver Valley Cemetery Pavilion. Interment will follow in the Silver Valley Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman. There will be no formal visitation with the family. Friends are welcome to pay respects at Stevens Funeral Home beginning at noon Thursday, September 2, 2021.
Hubert Augustus Rutherford was born October 29, 1952, in Mulberry, Arkansas to Andrew Kenneth Rutherford and Velma Gertrude Cannon Rutherford. He grew up in Marble Falls where he attended school. Hubert received his degree in Gospel Ministry from the Dallas Theological Seminary on June 25, 1978. After relocating to Novice, Hubert was the minister at Novice Baptist Church and Silver Valley Bible Church. He was also a farmer, rancher, and truck driver for Yellow Freight. Hubert loved to fish, read, and study his Bible.
Hubert and Gerri were married July 15, 1972 and spent 49 wonderful years together.
Gerri Jaclyn Rozzlle was born February 26, 1956, in Coleman to Gerald Rozzlle and Flora Oberia Pentecost Rozzlle. She graduated from Cooper High School in Abilene. Gerri worked as a teacher’s aide with the gifted and talented students for the Novice Independent School District and then worked at the Coleman Independent School District as the PIEMS secretary. She loved shopping, redecorating the house, teaching children at church, and spending time with her family.
Together, they brought great joy to Coleman County. From his great wit to her kind smile, they will always be remembered for spreading love and kindness to everyone they met. They will be missed by all who knew them.
Together they are survived by their son, Nicholas Rutherford and wife Jodie of Sweetwater; two grandchildren, Caleb Rutherford and Chloe Rutherford.
Hubert is survived by three sisters, Shirley Ostrander and husband Benny of Lubbock, Nancy Rutherford of Lubbock, and Nadine Bergey of Burnet; two brothers, Ricky Rutherford and wife Jennifer of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Alvin Rutherford and wife Bobbie of Spicewood.
Hubert is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Kenneth Rutherford and Velma Rutherford.
Gerri is also survived by one sister, Elizabeth Clifton.
Gerri is preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Flora Rozzlle; and one sister, Sue Rozzlle.
