A new Brownwood Lion football season kicks off three weeks from today. And, for the first time in 58 years, a new play-by-play voice will bring you each exciting play on KOXE, KOXE.com and the KOXE App.
Brown County Broadcasting has announced that Carl Wayne will be the new play-by-play voice of the Brownwood Lions, taking the microphone from Dallas Huston who announced his retirement earlier this year.
“I’m happy to hear that Carl Wayne has been named by KOXE play-by-play announcer for our Brownwood Lions. Carl is a very good friend of mine and one of the most talented I’ve ever worked with in radio. I truly wish him nothing but the best and will be supportive in any way I can,” Huston said.
“Following a legend at anything is never easy and Dallas Huston is certainly a legend in broadcasting, 58 years of Brownwood Lions football. I’ve been fortunate to be a part of that for the past 14 seasons and I’ve learned so much from Dallas, not only about broadcasting but about life as well. He and Linda have both been super to me,” Wayne said.
Carl Wayne began his broadcast career in 1982 in Haskell where he broadcast all high school sports in the Low Rolling Plains. Carl came to Brownwood in 2007 and began broadcasting Brownwood Lady Lion sports and occasional Howard Payne sports. Carl started broadcasting Lion football with Dallas Huston in 2008. In addition to Brownwood sports, Carl currently works as public address announcer for Howard Payne sports.
“When Carl joined KOXE in 2007 he had over 15 years of sports play-by-play experience in the Abilene area and had received recognition in sports broadcasting,” said KOXE Owner Don Dillard. “Fast forward an additional 13 years of being in the booth with Dallas and we are proud to give Brownwood sports fans the best, most knowledgeable person to take over from the legend. There is not a more deserving selection and to see Carl become the Voice of The Brownwood Lions is very gratifying for us.”
Carl will be joined in the broadcast booth by Scott McDaniel who has helped out on various Lion broadcasts for the past seven years.
“Scott McDaniel and I will continue to carry the torch and do our best to broadcast Brownwood Lions football. Thanks to the staff and management of Brown County Broadcasting for this opportunity,” Wayne concluded.
Michael Richardson and Derrick Stuckly are also a part of the football broadcast team from the sidelines with interviews and game stats.
This season is the 81st season of Brownwood Lion football to be broadcast over KOXE/KBWD.
