The Brownwood High tennis team posted an 8-5 record last fall, finished second in District 6-4A and earned a bi-district title during the team tennis campaign. The Lions and Lady Lions began their quest for even greater achievements in 2021 as the first practice was held Monday afternoon.
“We’ve got 17 out here right now and I’m expecting a few more out here tomorrow,” said Brownwood High tennis head coach Crystal Blazek. “We’re looking good. I had a bunch of them over the summer go to A&M camps, our camp, and a lot of them were playing in tournaments, so I’m expecting a good year.”
Blazek stated the strength of this year’s squad rests in the experience possessed by the upperclassmen.
“Their leadership will be good and they’ll guide and direct some of our young ones who are having to step up in some roles at the bottom of the lineup,” Blazek said.
Brownwood begins its regular season schedule Tuesday, Aug. 10 with a dual match at Sweetwater against the host Mustaangs and Lady Stangs, as well as San Angelo Lake View.
As for what Blazek wants to see from the team before its initial match, she said, “to pick up from where we left off from last year, get on the court and be consistent.”
