Welcoming a senior-laden roster for her third season as head coach, Allison Smith and the Brownwood Lady Lions began the 2021 volleyball campaign Monday with the first practices of the season.
“I’m really excited, the energy is looking really good,” said Smith, who guided Brownwood to a 12-9 record and bi-district championship in 2020. “The girls had a lot of conditioning this morning so they’re a little tired but still energetic and ready for our drills.”
Smith reported 45 girls attended the first workouts of the season. Brownwood has a scrimmage scheduled for Friday at San Angelo Central, then opens the regular season at Wall on Aug. 10 with a dual match against Wall at 10 a..m. and Monahans at 11:30 a.m.
“We have a lot to get accomplished this week,” Smith said of the goals before the season opener. “We have a lot of upperclassmen, which I’m really happy about because we haven’t had that in the past. We have seven seniors, so we have a lot of depth already, so I’d like to jump in and get our rotations and our game plan set.”
