Gary Dale Dyer, age 80, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021. Services for Gary will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 in the High Mesa Cowboy Church at 10:00AM with Interment to follow at Girard Cemetery in Girard, Texas. Officiated by Pastor Todd King. Services are under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.

Gary was born to Ben and Maurine (Duncan) Dyer on December 30, 1940 at his home in Girard Texas. He remained in Girard throughout his childhood and graduated from Girard High School in 1959. Gary grew up on the family farm in Girard, but Gary did not care too much for the farm because, as he said, “his grandad worked him from sun up to sun down”. He was drafted into the military after graduation where he served for around 3 years. After leaving the Army, Gary became a truck driver which was his passion. He loved driving, but loved it more when he found someone to share the road with him. More than that, he found someone who he would share his whole life with when he met Debra Henson, a friendship that evolved into a life of love. Gary married Debra on Christmas Day in 1981. They enjoyed 39 years of marriage together. Gary loved playing Billiards, and he had a green thumb when it came to gardening. He also had a serious interest in Nascar; Tony Stewart was his favorite driver. Gary also loved reading Louis L’Amour western books. Gary was a student of the Word of God and enjoyed listening to preaching at his church at High Mesa and he was always tuned into the 700 club. More than anything, he loved the Lord.

Gary is survived by his wife, Debra Dyer of Brownwood; sister, Donna Dyer Coen of Plainview, and his granddaughter, Kaela Mathis.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Maurine Dyer, and his daughter, Karla Mathis.
