ABILENE – The District 8-3A third seed Bangs Dragons were blanked by the District 7-3A runner-up Bowie Jackrabbits, 9-0, Friday night at McMurry University in Game 1 of their Region I-3A baseball bi-district playoff series.
Bangs (14-12-1) was limited to just four hits by Bowie pitcher Kawlyer Swearingin, who struck out 10 and walked three. Guy Powell, Ethan Sanchez, Ethan Cortez and Samuel Packer singled for the Dragons, who left six runners stranded on base.
Bowie (20-12) finished with 11 hits off the Bangs pitching combination of Angel Arias, Azreal Escobedo and Ethan Ethridge, who also issued five walks and fanned two batters.
The Jackrabbits – led by two hits and three RBIs from Logan Hutson – scored one run each in the second and third innings, three in the fourth and the final four runs in the sixth inning.
Games 2 and 3, if needed, begin at 1 p.m. Saturday back at McMurry University.
