Wanda “Granny” Gibbs, age 79, of Brownwood passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021, in Abilene.
Private Family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Wanda was born on February 9, 1942, to Leslie Jerry Baker and Velma Hazel (Gotcher) Baker in Graham, Texas. She worked at Howard Payne University for over 40 years and was known as “Granny” to many of the students who attended Howard Payne. She loved God, her family, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Early First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Baker of Houston; her four grandchildren, Brandon Thompson and wife Kim of Abilene, Weldon Thompson and wife Joy of Coleman, LeAnna Springer of Fort Worth, and Noel Pierce of Plano; numerous great-grandchildren; and her best friend, Margie Coker. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Wanda was preceded in death by her son, James Dwayne Thompson; her parents, Leslie and Velma Baker; brother. Jerry Baker; and sister, Betty Minica.
