NaNook & NaKoda’s Big Paw Rescue will host the Raise the Woof Stand-Up Comedy Show Saturday, May 8 at the Lyric Theatre. Comedians to perform include James Uloth, Mickey Housley, Steve Mazan
General admission tickets are $35, VIP tickets – which includes 2 alcoholic beverages and appetizers – are $75. Tickets can be purchased at brownwoodlyrictheatre.com.
The money raised at this event will help provide intake vetting and daily care needs for all the dogs we can save from Texas shelters and abandonment situations. This group of celebrity comedians travels around helping rescues to raise needed funds to save animals. Brown county’s first large/giant breed dog rescue has no paid staff so every penny raised literally goes to the dogs needs!
Uloth uses a combination of storytelling mixed with set-up purnchlines, Uloth makes observations on everyday situations that we can all relate with, while politely pointing out some of the cultural contradictions that have become the status quo.
When Housley, a native Texas, performs, ears have a tendency to perk up and eyes seem to focus. He has a way of captivating audiences. A fact he’s been proving since he won the Houston Knockout Competition after just three months of performing.
He would soon after become runner up of the Funniest Person in Houston Competition. From there he competed in several more competitions such as the Bay Area Comedy Competition, the Funniest person in Texas competition and NBC Stand Up. He also has performed in numerous comedy festivals, most notably the Boston Comedy Festival and Gilda’s Laugh Fest. His seamless blend of animation and wit has been featured on Showtime at the Apollo, Comedy Time Tv and Comcast Sports.
Mazan has accomplished much in his career including appearances on late night TV, on shows such as the “Late Show with David Letterman,” to his Emmy-winning writing for the Ellen Degeneres talk show and multiple inspirational TED talks, Mazan offers something for everyone.
Mazan has packed a lot into life. From living aboard a submarine in the Navy, to writing & performing on TV and sharing his uplifting personal story he’s compiled quite a resume. He also has an award-winning documentary and authored a biography released by the “Chicken-Soup for the Soul” publishers. But of all Mazan has done he’s most proud of his 12+ trips to the Mid-East to perform for our troops.
