The first of two days of District 6-4A track and field competition took place Wednesday at Gordon Wood Stadium, where the Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions combined to earn 10 berths in the area meet that will be held in Mineral Wells on April 14.
In the team standings, the Lady Lions are in second place with 39 points – ahead of Glen Rose (32), Gatesville (26.33), and Lampasas (22.33) – while trailing front-runner Stephenville (97.33).
The Lions find themselves in third place with 41 points, behind Stephenville (79) and Lampasas (51) while leading Gatesville (37) and Glen Rose (3).
The top four finishers in each event secure a berth in the area round.
Through Wednesday’s action, moving on as district champions from Brownwood are Jackson Yoder in the boys triple jump (40-5.75), Jared Northcutt in the boys discus (150-11), and Jaylen Savage in the girls high jump (5-0).
Earning a runner-up finish was Kylie Morris in the girls triple jump (36-0.5).
Coming in third were Logan McKibben in the boys triple jump (39-9) and Emma Stegemoller in the girls pole vault (J8-6).
Punching their area ticket with fourth-place efforts were Christian Kinzler in the boys high jump (J5-8), Jason Jackson in the boys long jump (19-8.5), Kris Hobbs in the boys shot put (43-3.5), and Jaslin Jones in the girls shot put (31-9.5).
Also picking up team points for the Lady Lions with fifth-place performances were Morris in the long jump (16-5.5), Becca Church in the triple jump (33-9.25), and Addison Strickland in the discus (91-8).
Brad Robinson placed sixth in the shot put (42-9) to add to a point to the Lions’ tally.
Running finals begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Gordon Wood Stadium.
