KOXE/KBWD Radio held its 45th Annual Cherry Pie Auction Saturday at the Adams Street Community Center and raised $15,060 for area youth sports. The money will be split evenly between the Brownwood Freshman Baseball League, the Brownwood Girls Softball Association, Soccer For Fun and the Cen-Tex Soccer Association.
More than 1,500 boys and girls participate and every penny raised goes directly to those youth sports programs.
In a change this year, the event took place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and was also livestreamed at KOXE.com by Randy Turner with assistance from Starr Goins in the KOXE studio. Carl Wayne and Mike Blagg provided traditional live on-site coverage on KOXE 101.3 FM as well.
Started in 1977 by Dallas Huston and Bill Jamar, the Cherry Pie Auction features pies, cakes, and additional baked goods up for donation, while sports memorabilia, along with goods and services provided by area businesses, go to the highest bidders.
