AUSTIN – The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets were prevented from picking up a second straight win as the Concordia Tornadoes registered a 4-1 men’s soccer victory Thursday afternoon.
Marco Vazquez scored twice for Concordia (4-2, 3-1) before HPU (1-6, 1-5) recorded its lone goal from Brandon Osborne 4:45 before halftime. Xavier Polk and Benjamin Terry tacked on additional goals for the Tornadoes.
The Yellow Jackets took three shots – by Osborne, Alexander Paz and Noah Platzer – with one on target.
Meanwhile, Concordia attempted 29 shots with 12 on goal as Andrew Hackney logged eight saves for Howard Payne.
The Yellow Jackets will wrap up their season at 3:30 p.m. Saturday as they welcome Concordia for a rematch.

AUSTIN – The Howard Payne Lady Jackets soccer team was denied its first win of the season as Concordia instead collected its initial victory, 2-0, Thursday afternoon.
Following a scoreless first half, Concordia (1-5-1, 1-5) found the net with 25 minutes left on a goal by Patricia Heckendorn, then Kallie Krenz added an insurance goal with 17:51 remaining.
Howard Payne (0-7, 0-6) attempted four shots with two on goal – by Marisah Mata and Lindsey Schiller.
Concordia fired 15 shots with 10 on frame as Delaney Castor recorded eight saves for HPU.
The Lady Jackets conclude their season at 1 p.m. Saturday at home against Concordia.
