GLEN ROSE – The Glen Rose Lady Tigers belted three first-inning home runs en route to a 15-0 victory over the Brownwood Lady Lions Tuesday night in the District 6-4A softball opener for both teams.
The Lady Lions (4-10-1, 0-1), who have dropped eight of their nine contests, have also surrendered 106 runs in that span.
Brownwood mustered just one hit – a first-inning single by Mia Lopez – while Hailey Snell and Mackenzie Welch drew second-inning walks, and Annie-Klein Allgood was hit by a pitch to start the third inning.
Glen Rose (13-3, 1-0) tallied 12 hits as Catalina Sanchez launched a first-inning grand slam, Mallory Goff followed with a solo shot, and Allie Austin chipped in a two-run blast during a seven-run first inning.
The Lady Tigers tacked on six runs in the third as a throwing error – one of four by the Lady Lions – resulted in the first two runs of the frame, Taylor McKenzie and Goff followed with RBI singles, then Sanchez drove in two with a base hit.
Glen Rose tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth – enforcing the district’s 15-run mercy rule after four innings – as a pair of errors on a double steal allowed both base runners to come home.
The Lady Lions will attempt to rebound at 6:30 p.m. Friday as they host Lampasas (10-8, 1-0) in the district home opener. Lampasas defeated Gatesville, 17-2, in its league opener Tuesday.
