
ALPINE – The Howard Payne Lady Jackets volleyball team slipped to 0-10 in American Southwest Conference action and 3-11 on the season with a pair of losses at Sul Ross Tuesday afternoon.
Howard Payne dropped the first match 25-19, 25-14, 26-15.
Fabianna Bennett led the Lady Jackets with eight kills followed by three each from Mya Ross, Mitsue Rodriguez, Canyon Hughes and Delaney Etzler, two from Riley Britain and one from Kaitlyn Elsten.
Britain dished out 10 assists trailed by Elsten with five, Chloe Pryor with four, and Etzler and Elizabeth Benn with one each.
Pryor served two aces while Britain and Rodriguez were each credited with one.
Defensively, Pryor and Britain recorded eight digs apiece followed by Daisy Flores with seven, Elsten with two and Rodriguez, Benn and Ross with one each.
Etzler and Hughes recorded blocks for HPU.
Sul Ross (4-2, 4-2) received 11 kills and 12 digs from Annika Canaba, five aces from Tatyana Colon, four blocks from Daniella Garcia, and 12 assists from Vivian Moya.
Howard Payne fell in the second match, 25-13, 25-20, 19-25, 25-16.
Ross chalked up 14 kills along with six from Rodriguez, three from Hughes, two each from Bennett and Britain, and one by both Benn and Flores.
Britain recorded 21 assists followed by Bennett with three and Elsten with a pair.
Rodriguez and Ross each served three aces while Britain, Benn, Flores and Pryor tacked on one apiece.
On the defensive end, Pryor logged six digs trailed by Ross, Benn and Britain with five apiece, Flores and Elsten with three each, and Etzler with a pair.
Ross registered four blocks, Etzler added three and Rodriguez, Hughes and Britain finished with one apiece.
Sul Ross was sparked by Canaba with 26 kills, Moya with 29 assists and three aces, Colon with nine digs and Garcia with three blocks.
The Lady Jackets will return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday at Concordia for another ASC doubleheader.
