HAMLIN – The Bangs Dragons baseball team picked up a couple of wins at Hamlin tournament Thursday, defeating Merkel, 5-3, and Colorado City, 5-1, to improve to 3-3-1 on the season.
In the win over Merkel, Bangs led 3-0 after one inning, Merkel drew even at 3 in the third, and the Dragons scored the decisive two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Dragons tallied six hits – one each by Guy Powell, Ethan Sanchez, Brayton Wedeman, Angel Arias, Ethan Ethridge, Evan Belez, and Wyatt Lykins. Sanchez, Arias, and Lykins were credited with RBIs.
On the mound, Wedeman worked all seven innings and allowed three runs on four hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Defensively, Bangs committed four errors.
In the triumph over Colorado City, Bangs broke a 1-all tie with three runs in the top of the fifth inning and added its final run in the sixth.
The Dragons collected five hits – one apiece from Sanchez, Arias, Ethridge, Belez and Ethan Cortez. Arias and Ethridge were credited with RBIs.
Arias and Ethridge also combined to allow one earned run on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks on the mound.
