DUBLIN – The Brownwood Lady Lions softball regular season finally began Tuesday afternoon, but the result was a 6-5 walk-off loss at Class 3A Dublin.
Brownwood (0-1) trailed 3-0 before pushing its first two runs of the season across the plate in the top of the fifth inning. Dublin answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to stretch the lead back to three, 5-2.
The Lady Lions then generated three runs in the top of the seventh inning to forge a tie, but Dublin scratched across the winning run in the bottom half of the frame.
Brownwood finished with five hits – two by Hailey Snell and one apiece by Annie-Klein Allgood, Auzzlyn Benedict and Chelsey Covey. Allgood drove in two runs while Benedict also contributed an RBI. The Lady Lions drew four walks as well, but also struck out 11 times.
In the circle for Brownwood, Allgood allowed two earned runs on eight hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks. The Lady Lion defense committed four errors which helped lead to four unearned runs.
The Lady Lions are slated to take part in the San Angelo Concho Classic Thursday through Saturday.
