BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Zephyr girls fall in bi-district round; Horns eliminated from playoff contention

GOLDTHWAITE – The District 18-A second seeded Zephyr Bulldogs were dealt a 53-49 season-ending loss at the hands of 17-A third seed Cherokee Friday night.

Zephyr earned the second seed by defeating Gustine, 40-32, in a playoff seeding game in Comanche earlier this week.

Comanche 55, Early Longhorns 51

COMANCHE – In the battle for fourth place in District 8-3A, the Early Longhorns suffered a season-ending 55-51 loss to the Comanche Indians Friday.

Early led 34-29 at halftime, but did not score in the third quarter and yielded the first 15 points of the second half. Trailing by 10 points in the fourth quarter, the Longhorns trimmed the deficit to a bucket but could not complete the comeback.

Ethan Mitchell led Early with 20 points trailed by Vic Cooper with 14, John Hill with nine, Jeremy Brown with four, Jaxyn Price with two, and John-Stewart Gordon with one point.

The Longhorns finished with an 11-13 record, 6-8 in district action. Comanche moves on with a 7-7 league mark and a 10-8 overall record.

#15 Eula 76, May Tigers 40

EULA – The May Tigers finished the regular season in a tie for second place in District 13-A following Friday’s 76-40 loss at No. 15 Eula.

May is currently slated to face Cross Plains at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Zephyr in a playoff game to determine the second and third playoff seeds from the district.
