The Brownwood City Council on Tuesday unanimously accepted the resignation of Ward 3 Councilman Larry Mathis, who will soon to be moving to Georgetown to be closer to family.
A special election will be held Saturday, May 1 to fill the remainder of Mathis’ term. The filing period is open now through March 1. Mathis will continue to serve until the May 1 election.
“These are plans that have been in the making for a very long time,” Mathis said. “We wanted to get down there with our grandkids and watch them grow up, play soccer and baseball and all the things that they do. It’ll be very difficult to leave Brownwood. I have 30 years invested in this community in a number of ways. It’ll be tough, but grandkids are very appealing.”
