Lisa Carolyn (Dibrell) Streckert passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021, at the age of 69.
Lisa was born in Brownwood to Frank and Betty (Wallace) Dibrell on May 7, 1951, the oldest of three children. She attended Brownwood High School, where she excelled in academics. She was member of the Lionettes Drill Team and Acapella Choir as well as being voted Miss BHS and Football Sweetheart her senior year. After high school, Lisa attended Baylor University for a semester before postponing college to marry her high school sweetheart in 1970.
In 1975, Lisa had her first of five children, and spent the next 15 years devoting all of her time and energy to raising her son and four daughters. After finding herself as a single mom in 1990, Lisa continued to work tirelessly raising her children, while also working full time and going back to college. In 1995, she graduated from Howard Payne University with degrees in Education and Accounting. From 1995 to 2006, Lisa was a first-grade teacher at Northwest Elementary School and was named Teacher of the Year for Region XV in 2006. During her last few years teaching, she found herself wanting to do more for children with learning disabilities, so she began studying for her master’s degree. In 2010, she graduated from Tarleton State University with a master’s degree in Educational Diagnostics. She used that education to help children by diagnosing learning disabilities and modifying educational strategies to help them be more successful in school. When Lisa retired from Brownwood ISD in 2016, she enjoyed spending more time with her grandchildren and volunteering at her church, but she found herself continuing to use her skills as a diagnostician, testing children and adults, at Brady ISD, Mason ISD, and finally at Taylor Clinic in Brownwood.
Lisa attended Brownwood’s First United Methodist Church for over 50 years, and many would say she was not just a member, but a fixture there. She had a great passion for serving God and served in many ministries of the church. She raised her children in the church, making sure they had God as the foundation for their lives. Lisa was everything to her children and her 8 grandchildren. When her children were young, she was always the “Room Mother,” the one who would volunteer for the field trips and make the team snacks. As they got older and had children of their own, “Mimi,” would drive countless miles to attend her grandchildren’s events. She would spend the night rocking one grandbaby to sleep, only to catch a quick nap before driving to the next grandbaby, just so her daughters could rest. She gave everything she had and everything she was to her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Betty Dibrell of Brownwood.
Lisa is survived by her daughters, Kori Salazar and husband James of San Antonio, Kati Streckert of Brownwood, Jill Mason and husband Derek of Round Rock, Jenny Wiley and husband Troy of Round Rock; her son, Ben Streckert of Austin; her 8 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson; sister, Lauren Davidson and husband Jim of Brownwood; and brother, Greg Dibrell and wife Becky of Brownwood. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She will be greatly missed.
The family will hold a private graveside ceremony on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Eastlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
