Audrey Laverne (Crawford) Taylor, age 86, of Brownwood passed away peacefully Saturday, January 2, 2021, at a local nursing facility from natural causes.
Celebration of Life and Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2021, at the Rochelle Cemetery in Rochelle with her son-in-law, Doug Hurt, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Audrey Laverne (Crawford) Taylor was born September 11, 1934, in Brady, TX to Herman and Audrey (Arledge) Crawford. She attended schools in Rochelle, Brady, Eden, and Brownwood. While attending Howard Payne College, Laverne met Jerry Bob “JB” Taylor and they married April of 1953. They spent their lives in the ministry, pastoring small rural churches until 1970 when they moved to Dallas where JB worked for the Baptist General Convention of Texas. In 1981 they left the city life for Stanton, Texas where they were the managers for Circle Six Ranch Baptist Camp. They retired in 1996 and returned to Brownwood. She was a member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church in Brownwood.
Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker, musician, crafter and seamstress. She spent years playing the piano, organ, and singing in the many churches where she and her husband pastored. She was known for her talent with the sewing machine making clothing for her family. Her home was always spotless and filled with items she made by hand. She passed on her artistic talent and gift of music to her daughter and grandsons J.T. and Taylor.
She was known as ‘Lady’ by her kids and grandkids. She was ‘mom’ to many young people that worked for JB through the BGCT and at Circle Six Ranch. Lady was the glue that held it all together. The saying is, “Behind every great man is an even greater woman”. Lady was that greater woman!
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Stephen Edward Taylor (November 2010) of Austin; and her husband, Jerry Bob “JB” Taylor (July 2019) of Brownwood.
She is survived by her daughter, Lori Hurt and husband Doug of Brownwood; 3 grandsons, J.T. Hurt and wife Megan of Jerome, Idaho, Taylor Hurt of Brownwood and special family friend, Laiken Reagan of Blanket, and Ross Taylor and family of Bandera; one great-granddaughter, Bexlie Grace Hurt of Jerome, Idaho; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Ricker of San Angelo; nephew, Bruce Franke of San Angelo; niece, Brigette Schroeder and husband Ross of Christoval; and nephew, Todd Franke and wife Shaunna of Brownwood. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends.
A very special thank you to Senior Care Nursing Facility and Solaris Hospice. The nurses and workers at these two places were amazing in the care they took of Lady. We will be forever grateful!!
