The Brownwood High tennis team tuned up for its bi-district playoff match against Decatur on Oct. 27 with a 15-4 home victory over Sweetwater Thursday night.
In a match made up from a Sept. 12 cancellation, the Lady Lions led the charge by sweeping all nine of their matches.
Girls doubles wins belonged to No. 1 Aaliyah Uvalle and Lillian Jonescue (6-0, 6-2 over Jazmin Ruiz and Samantha Gallardo), No. 2 Labritaney Pollard and Leila Rivera (6-0, 6-0 over Kayley Chadwick and Zarate), and No. 3 Aishwarya Nigalye and Victoria Ramos (default).
Picking up girls singles victories for Brownwood were No. 1 Ramos (6-1, 6-0 over Morgan Strebeck), No. 2 Nigalye (6-1, 6-0 over Gallardo), No. 3 Pollard (6-1, 6-0 over Ruiz), No. 4 Rivera (6-1, 6-0 over Chadwick), No. 5 Emma Delgado (6-3, 6-3 over Zarate) and No. 6 Natalie Mares (default).
The Lions picked up four wins – two each in singles and doubles play.
Earning boys doubles victories were No. 1 Mo Goff and Peter Le (6-3, 6-3 over Max Berry and Austin Ramirez) and No. 3 Victor Hernandez and River Prado (6-2, 6-4 over Matthew Pena and Ely Barrera).
Securing boys singles wins were No. 1 Goff (6-0, 6-1 over Calen Hughes) and No. 4 Julian Lares (7-5, 6-4 over Hector Leyva).
Brownwood also won the mixed doubles matches with the victory earned by Dillon Gatlin and Natalie Mares (6-3, 6-0 over Strebeck and Leyva).
District 6-4A runner-up Brownwood (7-3) will District 5-4A third seed Decatur in Mineral Wells at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27. With a win, the Lions and Lady Lions will advance to face perennial playoff power Vernon.
