Brownwood News – The Young Leaders of Brown County held a new shoe drive for Brownwood students. Titled “Kicks for Kids”, the campaign requested area citizens to donate a new pair of shoes for students in grades K-12. Each new pair of shoes donated entitled the donor to a free pulled pork bar-b-que sandwich lunch kit.
Early this afternoon, and before the campaign was concluded, the Young Leaders had collected over 30 pair of new shoes, plus enough cash donations to purchase another 30 pair. According to Young Leaders member Lisa Morris, of Carter Health Care, the shoes will be donated to the Brownwood ISD, which will distribute them to children in need of new shoes.
The presenting sponsors for the campaign were Weakley-Watson Hardware and the Brownwood Municipal Development District. The bar-b-que sandwiches were donated by Jimmy Trowbridge, the chips and take-out containers were donated by Lemons Bar-B-Que, and the cookies were donated by United Supermarket.
