Brownwood News – The Texas Commission on Jail Standards inspected the Brown County Jail on May 18, 2020 and, for the second year in a row, the inspection found no deficiencies.

“We have no notice of when they’re going to be here, they just happen to show up and we’ve got to be ready to go,” said Brown County Sheriff Vance Hill.  “I’d like to brag on my personnel, I’m proud of my jail staff,” Hill said.

Hill said during inspections the Jail Commission looks at 27 different areas such as the admission and release process, records and procedures, health services, supervision, personal hygiene of inmates, sanitation, food service, discipline, grievance and religious practices, among others.

In a letter to Sheriff Hill from Brandon Wood, TCJS Executive Director – “The Texas Commission on Jail Standards wishes to acknowledge the excellent work of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office with a Certificate of Compliance for the Brown County Jail.  The most recent inspection of your facility on May 18, 2020 has demonstrated that your facility is in compliance with Texas Minimum Jail Standards.  This achievement is a direct result of your office’s commitment to excellence and is an example of dedication and professionalism in maintaining a safe, secure and sanitary facility.”

The letter goes on to congratulate Brown County Commissioners Court for their budgetary support of jail operations.
