Brigadier-General Peter Atkinson, III Corps’ and Fort Hood’s deputy commander, paid a visit to Brownwood High School on Thursday to present an award to the team and share some words of encouragement.
The General, along with COL Lamb, CSM Woods, CPT Marshall, and MAJ Scott from Fort Hood, arrived via a military helicopter which landed in the Lions’ practice field shortly before the pep rally. The soldiers were met by a band of Brownwood Lions where they greeted each other outside Warren Gym.
During the pep rally, General Atkinson presented the Army Strong Team of the Week award to the Lions’ team captains. The team was awarded this honor for their performance against the Graham Steers during the homecoming game on October 23rd.
Atkinson said that the award represents leadership, commitment to excellence and a desire to make a difference as a member of a team. He wished the team good luck in Friday’s game against the Seminole Indians.
Shortly after the pep rally, the General and the other soldiers left the same way they arrived and waved to the sea of spectators watching from the practice field.
