Brownwood News – It was announced on Wednesday morning that the 57th annual Brown County Rodeo has been canceled for the first week of June 2020, due to uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
In making the announcement on KOXE Radio, Brent Moseley, Chairman of the Brown County Rodeo, said there are too many unknowns at this time. “We had the executive call yesterday that we have decided to cancel the rodeo, unfortunately. There are too many unknowns at this point and just the financial situation of not only our sponsors but, you know, the community,” Moseley said.
When asked if the rodeo could be rescheduled for later this year, Moseley said no. “That was discussed. It’s too hard because a lot of rodeos are already trying to push into the later months of the year. Between getting the stock contractor, announcer and clowns, they’re already booked (later in the year). Typically, the much larger rodeos are up north that time of the year. I’m sure if this world opens up those will continue to happen and hopefully they do,” Moseley said.
The Brown County Rodeo plans to return in 2021. It is a major fundraiser for the Brown County Youth Fair Association. Everyone is encouraged to continue supporting the youth of the county when the stock show returns in January and plan to attend the rodeo in June 2021. Please read the message below shared on the Brown County Fair Association Facebook page and consider supporting the organization.

Every year the Brown County Fair Association looks forward to hosting the Brown County Rodeo which is a time honored tradition and one of the largest fundraisers for the Brown County Fair Association’s general fund. The Association has made the difficult decision to cancel the rodeo that was planned for June. This was a tough call to make but the ability to raise funds, coordinate the volunteers, and logistically plan this large event has been hampered by the Covid crisis. We feel the need to prioritize the health and safety of our volunteers and community at this time. We remain committed to the 2021 youth fair and the youth of Brown County.
We will need continued community support to contribute to the general fund through donations. This fund helps to maintain the fairgrounds and to host the youth fair. Working with the next generation of leaders, creators and the future of agriculture remains our focus. We know this is a major loss for our participants, royalty and community. We look forward to hosting the 2021 Youth Fair so our youth can learn, lead, and serve while they raise and create their projects.
Please contribute to the general fund through membership sales from our next group of Queen candidates, or a direct donation can be mailed to:
