Several news agencies out of Waco are reporting that the San Saba County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the weekend death of a 13-month old.
The Sheriff’s office said that a deputy was dispatched at around 5:20 a.m. Sunday to a home in the 100 block of Live Oak in Richland Springs in response to a call by the baby’s mother.
The Sheriff’s office said when the deputy arrived at the home, the 13-month old was unresponsive.
The deputy performed CPR until paramedics arrived, and the baby was taken to Brownwood Regional Medical Center in Brownwood, but efforts to save the child were unsuccessful.
Reports say that hospital staff members notified the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and said investigators are treating the death as suspicious.
The San Saba Sheriff’s Department is waiting for an autopsy report for an official ruling on the cause of death. They are treating the death as suspicious until examiners determine otherwise. No arrests have been made.
Chief Deputy Bill Price said the parents are very distraught and the mother is currently staying with relatives.
