BrownwoodNews – This Sunday evening, December 2, the Music Ministry of First Baptist Church Brownwood will present its annual Christmas concert featuring music performed by the FBC Sanctuary Choir and Sanctuary Orchestra.

The concert will be given during the regular Sunday evening worship hour at 6:00 PM, and will contain opportunities for audience participation. Included on the program will be a setting of Silent Night by Michael Trotta, as well as See, Amid the Winter’s Snow, and The Huron Carol by Dan Forrest.

According to Dr. Gregory Church, Minister of Music, “The Huron Carol is a beautiful setting of the Christmas story, the text of which is a translation of a poem by Jean de Brébeuf, one of the earliest missionaries to Canada.” Other selections on the concert will be the familiar Christmas hymns “O Come, All Ye Faithful”, “The First Nowell,” and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.” Also on the program will be Dr. Celeste Church singing A Christmas Carol by Ned Rorem.

“The Sanctuary Choir at FBC Brownwood is one of the finest volunteer church choirs that I have had the privilege to conduct” said Church. “It is always a pleasure to share music of the Christmas season as part of our ministry to our church and community,” he said. This year, the concert will be held in the newly renovated FBC Sanctuary. The Sanctuary Choir and Orchestra are each made up of members of the FBC congregation,

students from the Howard Payne University Department of Music, and friends from Abilene. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 6:00 PM in the sanctuary of the historic church. FBC Brownwood is located at 208 Austin Avenue.
