The Brownwood Reunion Celebration’s Hands on a House competition experienced something that has never happened before – a repeat winner.

Joey Broussard of Early outlasted her other competitors during the event, winning the custom built playhouse; just as she did back in 2007.   She lasted 40 hours, 22 minutes, and 31 seconds with her hand on the custom built playhouse to win the competition.  Second place winner was Chuck Gebhardt who was also runner-up the last time Hands on a House took place in 2009.  Event organizers said that a winning contestant must wait 2 years before competing again making Broussard eligible to compete.

The final two contestants also competed in a costume contest at midnight Sunday morning.  Broussard, the winner of the costume contest earned an additional break.   Votes for the costume contest were collected from the public as they left the Easton Corbin concert.

Local charities Good Samaritan Ministries and St. John’s Food bank also benefited from the Hands on a House event with a canned food drive.  Local businesses and schools collected food prior to the event kick-off and contestants on Hands on a House took donations of canned goods as well to earn an extra break from the house.  They even marched in the Reunion Grand Parade asking for help.

In the end, over 4500 cans of food were given through the competition.

“We had about 3000 canned goods at the start of the contest that went to Good Samaritan,” said event organizer Mark Campbell.  “We got another 1500 to 2000 cans during the competition that went to St. Johns.”

This year’s Hands on a House competition was sponsored by Coldwell Banker, Mark Campbell and Associations; TexasBank Mortgage; and Brownwood High School’s building trade department who constructed the house.
