A Chevy single cab pickup truck crashed into a cluster of oak trees in a neighborhood on Wood Street Tuesday afternoon, toppling one of the trees into the street.  The teenage driver and passenger of the vehicle each had minor injuries from the collision according to police at the scene.  Residents of the area reported hearing a loud noise and going outside to find the vehicle in their neighbor’s yard.

According to police on scene, the teenagers involved in the wreck said that another vehicle came off of 4th Street driving in the middle of the roadway, causing the driver of the pickup to swerve hitting the trees.  The suspect vehicle was not in the area when police and emergency crews arrived at the scene just minutes after the crash.

There were several feet of tire marks along the curbing before the area where the truck eventually was stopped by the group of live oak trees.  One tree was broken off by the impact of the truck, lying across Wood Street blocking most of the roadway.  City crews quickly came and removed this tree.  Utility lines that ran through the tree were also damaged and city crews were evaluating what types of utilities were present in order to have them repaired.

The two teenage occupants were taken to the emergency room for evaluation.  The two girls were conscious yet shaken from the accident.  One of the young girls complained of a knee injury and the other of possibly broken fingers.  Air bags in the truck did deploy and there was heavy front end damage to the truck.

Pictured above is a Brownwood Firefighter assessing the scene of the accident.  Below are photos of the accident scene.
