SAN ANGELO – The Bangs Lady Dragons completed a Class 2A Division I Region I softball area round sweep, and are bound for the third round of the playoffs following Saturday’s 13-2 victory in Game 2 over Forsan at San Angelo Central High School.
Winners of Game 1 by a 5-2 count Thursday, the Lady Dragons (25-7) will next face Clarendon (22-5-1) in the regional semifinal round.
Bangs pounded out 21 hits, including four – with a pair of doubles – and four RBIs from Abby Wolf, who Saturday morning ran as part of the 4×100 and 4×200 relays for the Lady Dragons at the UIL Track and Field State Championships. Wolf also yielded two runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and one walk in the circle.
The start of the game was pushed back four hours to 6 p.m. for Wolf to compete at state in track, as the Lady Dragons – who set new school relays in both relays – were supposed to run Friday evening, but a whether postponement in Austin forced the change in plans.
Other offensive standouts for Bangs, which avenged a 2023 regional semifinal series loss to Forsan, included Neeley Bradley with three hits – including a pair of home runs – and four RBIs; Cheyenne Rush with three hits – including two doubles – and one RBI; Justice Baker with two hits – including a homer – and a pair of RBIs; Julianne Ethridge, Mattisyn Taylor, Stormy Stringer and Aubree Buford each with two hits; and Adalynne Stephens chipped in a hit.
A time, date and place for the regional semifinal round against Clarendon had not been finalized Saturday night.
