Zephyr’s McClain in pole vault, Bangs’ Solis in long jump atop state qualifier lists

Bangs Lady Dragon Kasey Solis in the Class 2A girls long jump and Zephyr’s Ronni McClain in the Class 1A girls pole vault push the number of Brown County’s 22 state track and field entrants that posted the best regional numbers across the state to seven.

Solis and McClain join the Brownwood Lady Lions 4×100 and 4×200 relays and Lady Lion Kaya Phillips in the 4A girls 200 meters, along with Early Longhorn Camden Myers in the 3A boys high jump and Lady Horn Jamie Vassar in the 3A girls shot put.

The reigning state champion, McClain’s 10-6 vault at in regionals is the best among Class A girls pole vault qualifiers. Comprising the rest of the participants in Austin will be Emily Landeros of Sanderson (10-0), Ella Braden of Garden City (9-9), Quin Billingsley of McLean (9-3), Baylee Gray of Woodson (9-3), Hayley Connell of Ackerly Sands (9-0), Jentry Bressler of Happy (9-0), Cambree Denham of Fayetteville (8-9) and Annalisa Culberson of Cumby Miller Grove (8-3).

Solis ranks first in the 3A girls long jump with a 18-6.75 effort at regionals. The rest of the state field consists of Jayla Lee of Bosqueville (18-3.5), Cayt Jackson of Timpson (18-1.75), Ava Burrell of Roscoe (18-1), Jazymn Howard of Refugio (17-9.25), Kaylee Hunt of Hico (17-8.25), Da’Nyzah Wells of Rosebud-Lott (17-7.25), Zanoviah Coleman of Chilton (17-5.25), and Saydee Williams of Sanford-Fritch (17-0).

Bangs’ four entrants in the UIL Track and Field State Championships will compete in Class 2A action Friday, May 2, while Zephyr, May and Blanket entrants will test their mettle in the Class 1A draw Saturday, May 3 at the University of Texas’ Myers Stadium in Austin.

The rest of the Brown County 2A and 1A state qualifiers, their ranks, and the athletes they will compete against are as follows:
