The Texas Department of Public Safety issued the following information at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday:
On April 1, 2025, at 5:55 a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to a crash involving a Hermleigh ISD activity bus at County Road 4114 and County Road 4123. The bus was transporting ten students aged 14 to 17 years. Fortunately, no one was injured in the crash.
The crash occurred as the bus traveled east on CR 4114 and approached a “T” intersection with CR 4123. The road is gravel-covered and unlit, and the driver could not make a left turn due to the bus’s speed. As a result, the bus continued east through the intersection and off the roadway. The driver was cited for unsafe speed. Unsafe Speed is not alleging the driver was speeding, only that the bus was being operated at a speed greater than was prudent for the conditions of the roadway, lighting, etc.
The Hermleigh ISD superintendent, Jessie Ellerbe, released a statement regarding the incident on the district’s Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) social media pages.
