
BROCK – The Brownwood Lady Lions wrapped up the first half of the District 6-4A softball slate with a second straight setback, falling to Brock – the No. 1 ranked team in Class 4A by the Texas Girls Coaches Association – by a 6-1 count Tuesday.
Brownwood (12-9, 2-3) was limited to three hits and scored its lone run in the top of the fourth inning. Meanwhile, Brock (20-0-2, 5-0) tallied one run in the first inning, two in the second, two more in the fourth and a final run in the sixth.
Jeniffer Romero, Carlee Burks and Kaydence Allen recorded hits for Brownwood, while Lila Mares collected the RBI.
In the circle, Allen went the distance and yielded six unearned runs on nine hits with nine strikeouts and two walks, as the Brownwood defense committed seven errors behind her.
The Lady Lions begin the second half of district action at Glen Rose (12-10, 1-4) at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Brownwood won the first meeting on its home turf, 5-4, back on March 18.
