STEPHENVILLE – The Brownwood Lions allowed four runs in the first inning and two more in the fifth before the offense came to life, but a comeback wasn’t in the cards as the Stephenville Yellow Jackets prevailed, 6-4, in the District 6-4A baseball opener for both teams Tuesday night.
The reigning 6-4A champion Lions (8-10, 0-1) did scratch three runs across the board in the top of sixth inning and one more in the seventh before the Yellow Jackets (15-2-2, 1-0) extinguished the rally.
Brownwood finished with eight hits to the Yellow Jackets’ four, but the Lions committed four errors and Stephenville batters also drew three walks. The Lions were issued just one walk.
Additional statistical information on the game was not available late Tuesday night.
The Lions and Stephenville meet again at 7 p.m. Friday at Morris Southall Field to conclude their two-game district series. In other league action Tuesday, Brock (12-1, 1-0) doubled up Graham (10-6, 1-0) by a 4-2 count, and Mineral Wells (9-6-1, 1-0) blanked Glen Rose (10-7, 1-0) in a 3-0 decision.
