Betty Jean Green Jones, age 75 of Bangs, TX passed away Sunday, March 23, 2025 in Bangs, TX. Visitation will be held Friday, March 28, 2025, 6pm – 8pm at Brownwood Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 2pm at New Testament Holiness Church located in Bangs, TX.
Betty was born, March 10, 1950 to Vestine Green and Bobbie Robinson Green in Lincoln, a small rural community outside of Giddings, Texas. At a young age Betty accepted Christ as her Lord and Saviour and was baptized at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church in Giddings, Texas. Betty loved singing in the choir, as a child she sang in the adult choir – she was a born singer.
She graduated from Giddings High School in 1968 and moved to Austin, Texas where she attended Nixon-Clay Business School. Betty saw business school as an opportunity to gain skills to help her in the growing work force and she worked diligently to help her parents pay for the business courses she wanted. Her hard work also allowed Katha, her younger sister, to take business courses as well. She lived at the YWCA and made lifelong friends that she has to this day.
Betty started her business career at the Texas Department of Banking. She moved up quickly in every area of banking and remained with the department for many years before moving back to Giddings, Texas. It was during that time she met and married the love of her life, her husband, William Jones, Sr., and together they adopted their son, Joshua. Betty did not have any children, but she lovingly raised five, Hope, Joshua, Ethel Jane, Josephine, and William, Jr. Her heart was as big as Texas. Betty treated all children as if they were her own.
Betty reunited with Corinth Missionary Baptist Church in 1983 and remained a faithful member until 1993 when she moved her membership to Truth Ministries of Jesus Christ Outreach which she helped to establish and organize. She also helped to organize the Genesis singing group which later became Children of The Light.
While in Giddings she worked as a laboratory technician at the Alcoa Aluminum Plant in Rockdale, Tx. Later on she was the manager at the Mills Home Healthcare Agency. She sought and gained employment with the Texas Department of Public Safety and drove back and forth to Austin, Tx for many years.
After the older children graduated high school, Betty, William, and Joshua moved to Bangs to be near William’s family. She was blessed to find a new career with the Texas Work Force in Brownwood/Abilene. Betty also found a loving church home when she united with the New Testament Holiness Church where she found many new friends that she grew to love. She remained a faithful and active member until her passing.
She’ll meet at the gates of heaven, her husband William L. Jones, Sr., her parents, Vestine and Bobbie Green, paternal grandmother, Lydia Denmon Green, maternal grandmother, Josephine Lewis Robinson, and brother, Vestine Green, Jr., who died in infancy.
She leaves to cherish her memories: children, Joshua Jones (Jessica) of Brownwood, Texas; EJ Jones of Atlanta, Georgia; Josephine Jones of Katy, Texas; William Jones, Jr. (Bridgette) of Giddings, Texas and Hope Green of Austin, Texas; grandsons Aden Jones of Bangs, Texas and Cameron Jones of Brownwood, Texas; uncle, Milton Green, Sr. of Dallas, Texas; siblings: Katha Dibbles; Dennis Green, Barbara Haywood, John Green, all of Giddings, Texas; Polly Emerson (Paul) of Round Rock, Texas; Clarice Green of Pearsall, Texas; Wesley Green (Josephine) of Austin, Texas; special cousins: Gladys Willrich & Louise Rivers and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
