
ABILENE – By two points, the Brownwood Lady Lions track and field team – the smallest program in the field – extended its string of consecutive meet championships to five to open the season, tallying 146 points to the 144 of Class 6A Wolfforth Frenship at the Key City Relays in Abilene Friday.
The other schools in the field were 6A and 5A programs Odessa Permian, Midland Legacy, Abilene Wylie, Abilene High, Odessa High, Midland High, Wichita Falls Memorial, Wichita Falls Legacy and Abilene Cooper.
The Lady Lions swept all three relays as finishing first were the 4×100 team of Icess Hall, Kaya Phillips, Jade Morin and Aniah Hines (47.96); the 4×200 team of Jade Morin, Kaya Phillips, Aniah Hines and Kate Tindol (1:41.26); and the 4×400 team of Kate Tindol, Jade Morin, Rebekkah Delgado and Braycee Lee (4:01.52).
Also winning their events were Sidney Windham in the 1600 meters (5:19.09) and Kaya Phillips in the 200 meters (25.06).
The times by the 4×100, 4×200 and Windham all set new school records.
In JV girls action, the Lady Lions finished second to Wolfforth Frenship, amassing 128 points.
On the boys side, the Lions came in 10th place with 33.5 points, while the JV Lions produced 8 points.
