
MINERAL WELLS – The Brownwood Lady Lions left nine base runners stranded and were plagued by multiple errors as their rally came up short in a 10-7 loss to District 6-4A softball rival Mineral Wells Friday night.
The Lady Lions (11-7, 1-1) surrendered the first six runs of the game and trailed at one point 9-2 before trimming the deficit to 9-7 in the top of the sixth inning.
Brownwood generated 13 hits – three each by Carlee Burks and Tynlea Wilson, two by Hanah Campos, and one apiece by Jeniffer Romero, Chloe Walls, Lila Mares, Kaydence Allen and Jakayla Peek. Burks, Campos, Allen, Wilson and Peek also contributed one RBI each.
In the circle, Allen and Wilson combined to yield eight earned runs on 12 hits with five strikeouts and five walks.
The Lady Lions will attempt to bounce back at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Stephenville (10-9-1, 0-2), which suffered its second straight one-run district loss to first-place Brock (17-0-2, 2-0) by a 6-5 count Friday night.
