Donald Clayton Moore, age 82, of Brady, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at his residence in Brady on Friday, March 14, 2025. Clayton was born on October 4, 1942, in New Iberia, Louisiana to Edwin Moore and Jane (Bonette) Moore and was an only child. He grew up in New Iberia and graduated from New Iberia High School. He attended Texas A&M University for one semester before transferring to Louisiana State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business and his Law degree. After graduating from law school, he worked at a law firm for about a year before realizing that he wanted to do work outside. He entered the U.S. Army, serving in Viet Nam. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Viet Nam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars and the Republic of Viet Nam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation Badge. He was honorably discharged at the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He moved from Lubbock to Brady in 1996. He married Helen Helm on July 26, 1996, in Brady. He and Helen owned and operated C & H Lawncare in Brady for many years. Clayton was a very patriotic man. He also was a bus driver for Brady I.S.D. for several years. He was very active in the Burton K. McCord Memorial VFW Post 3234, where he has served as Commander for over 30 years. He also operated the VFW Weekly Bingo game and was the Ball Caller for over 20 years. He was recognized in December of 2021 by the local radio station, KNEL, with the Above and Beyond Award, for his continued assistance to veterans in need. He also collected data for the National Weather Service and was a member of the Ham Operators Club. Clayton was an “old school” man, in that, a handshake and your word was all he needed for a deal.
