Alwyn Brandon Jacobs, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Hendrick Hospice Care in Abilene, Texas. Born on May 13, 1933, in Sylvester, Texas, Alwyn grew up in Santa Anna, where she graduated Salutatorian from Santa Anna High School, leaving behind cherished memories and a lifelong connection to her roots.
Throughout her career, Alwyn exemplified dedication and commitment. She spent many years at G.T.E. Telephone before transitioning to her role as a secretary at First Baptist Church in Santa Anna. Her 27 years of service at the church were marked by unwavering devotion to her faith and a genuine love for her church family. Alwyn’s warmth and kindness extended from her professional life into the heart of her community.
Alwyn had a love for living the ranch life. She had a passion for riding horses and helping Sammy at the Lazy J Ranch. Alwyn loved her family immensely and never missed an opportunity to support her grandchildren in all their sporting activities. Alwyn, Sammy, and all three children attended the Coleman PRCA Rodeo. Together, they rode their horses in the Coleman Rodeo Parade, making it a family tradition.
On October 24, 1959, Alwyn married Sammy D. “Chongo” Jacobs in Brownwood, forming a partnership that would be a cornerstone of her life. As a proud wife and mother, she raised three children, instilling in them the values of love and hard work. Alwyn is survived by her children, Jennifer Thompson and husband Tommy of Blanket, Richard Jacobs and wife Denisa of Santa Anna, and Jeff Jacobs and wife Corey of Santa Anna. She cherished her role as a grandmother, taking immense joy in her six grandchildren: Matthew Jordan Smith, Cody Gene Smith, Tanner Joe Thompson, Kolton David Jacobs, Macey Jill Jacobs, and Cooper Cash Jacobs, and one
great-grandson, Harvey Parker Smith.
Alwyn was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sammy D. “Chongo” Jacobs, her parents, Melvin Arnetta “Red” Brandon and Eunice Avalene Hood Brandon, and her siblings, two brothers, Bill Brandon and Don Brandon, and two sisters, Lillian Clevenger and Avalene Arnetta Brandon.
Alwyn Jacobs leaves behind a legacy defined by love, faith, and family. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, a testament to a life well-lived and a heart full of love.
The family will host a visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman. Family and friends are invited to a funeral service celebrating her remarkable life at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2025, at First Baptist Church, 201 Lee Street, in Santa Anna with Bro. David McLean officiating. Interment will follow in the Santa Anna Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.
