
ABILENE – After dropping their first two games in the Abilene ISD Invitational Thursday, the Brownwood Lions baseball team bounced back with a pair of victories Friday over Burleson and San Angelo Lake View.
In a 5-4 victory over Burleson, the Lions trailed 1-0 after one inning, but scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the second. Brownwood then held off a late Burleson rally that featured one run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth.
The Lions generated 11 hits offensively, led by four from Austin Wright who added two RBIs. Robbie Robinson tacked on a pair of hits and two RBIs while Weston Wolf also had a hit and drove in one. Antonio Ybarra, Jack Field and Dario Rodriguez also collected base hits.
On the mound, Noan Gonzalez, Harrison Sweeney and Wright combined to surrender three earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and four walks. The Lion defense committed one error behind them.
Brownwood then defeated Lake View for the third time this season, 6-3, as the Lions jumped out in front 5-0 in the second inning. Lake View closed the gap to 5-3 in the fourth, but the Lions added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.
The Lions produced nine hits – two hits both by Field and Austin Pittman and one each from Ybarra, Wright, Robinson, Rodriguez and Wolf, who recorded a team-high two RBIs. Ybarra and Wright also chipped in an RBI apiece.
The Lions (7-5) are off until Thursday when they host San Angelo Central in a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
