
GATESVILLE – The Brownwood Lady Lions softball team’s five-game win streak came to a conclusion Friday night in a 16-6 road loss to the Gatesville Lady Hornets.
Down 1-0 after one inning, the Lady Lions grabbed a 2-1 edge in the top of the third, only to surrender seven runs in the bottom half of the third. Brownwood answered with three runs in the top of the fourth to close the gap to 7-5.
Gatesville then pushed three more runs across the plate to extend the advantage to 10-5, while Brownwood added its final run in top of the sixth. The Lady Hornets then ended the game via 10-run mercy rule thanks to a six-run bottom of the sixth.
The Lady Lions notched eight hits – three by Carlee Burks, who homered and drove in three runs; a solo home run by Tynlea Wilson; and singles by Jeniffer Romero, Chloe Walls, Peyton Pena and Hanah Campos, who plated one run.
In the circle, Wilson and Kaydence Allen gave up 10 earned runs on 16 hits with five strikeouts and seven walks. Brownwood’s defense committed three errors behind the pitching duo.
The Lady Lions (10-6) are off until Thursday when they visit Merkel at 11 a.m.
