LLANO – The Brownwood Lady Lions erased a three-run deficit to push their win streak to five games with a come-from-behind 4-3 triumph over Wall Saturday in their finale at the Llano tournament.
Trailing 3-0 after surrendering a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, the Lady Lions (10-5) responded with all their runs in the top of fourth.
Kaydence Allen launched a game-tying three-run home run after Lila Mares reached on an error, then Hanah Campos singled. Next, Peyton Pena reached on the second Wall miscue of the frame ahead of the go-ahead RBI double by Maitlyn Esquivel.
“This weekend, the Lady Lions had something to prove,” said head coach Cherita Munguia. ” They kept their energy high while enduring long hours and multiple game gaps. The lineup, from 1 to 9, consistently found ways to drive the ball while facing all levels of pitching. The defense made adjustments when necessary to ensure success for their team, and players embraced their roles. It was an excellent weekend for Lady Lion Softball.”
The Lady Lions finished with six hits, two each by Campos and Mares and one apiece by Allen and Esquivel.
In the circle, Tynlea Wilson and Allen combined to allow three runs on three hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
Brownwood is back in action at 5 p.m. Tuesday when it hosts Llano, which it defeated Thursday in the tournament opener.
