
SWEETWATER – The Brownwood Lions were dealt a second consecutive setback at the Sweetwater tournament Friday morning, falling to the Wall Hawks by a 5-3 count.
Brownwood (4-3) opened the tournament Thursday with an 11-0 victory over San Angelo Lake View – the Lions’ second triumph over the Chiefs this season – but was then upended by Jim Ned, 9-1.
Against Wall (5-2), the Lions fell behind 4-0 after one inning, trailed 4-1 through two and faced a 5-1 deficit after three frames. In the fourth, Brownwood scratched across a pair of runs but left the bases loaded.
The Lions tallied four hits – two by Jack Field along with one each from Noah Gonzalez and Dario Rodriguez – drew eight walks and were also aided by a pair of Wall errors. Austin Pittman recorded two of the walks for Brownwood.
On the mound, Mason Milwee and Harrison Sweeney combined to yield three earned runs on nine hits with one strikeout and two walks over five innings. The Brownwood defense committed one error behind them.
The Lions wrap up tournament action at 12:15 p.m. Saturday against Merkel in Merkel.
