Welcome back to the weekly Pfluger Fly-By, a collection of events and happenings to keep you updated on everything I am doing week-by-week to represent you in Congress.
This week, I was glad to be back in Texas-11 for a packed week of meetings and events! This week included hosting U.S. House Committee on Agriculture Chairman Glenn Thompson in San Angelo, celebrating new American citizens taking their oath of citizenship, meeting with students across the district, and much more.
I have included some photos and highlights from a few of this week’s events. You can also find information on how my office can help you with any federal problems you may be having. As always, please do not hesitate to contact my office if we can ever be of assistance.
Best,
Chairman Thompson in San Angelo
To kick off the week, I had the privilege of hosting the U.S. House Committee on Agriculture Chairman Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson in San Angelo. We toured Producers Livestock Auction Company, the nation’s largest sheep and goat market, and Lone Star Beef Processors, which are two vital operations for our region’s agricultural economy. We also heard directly from local farmers, ranchers, and industry stakeholders about the need to pass a strong Farm Bill this year.
As Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture, Thompson plays a critical role in crafting this crucial legislation. I am committed to working alongside him to pass a Farm Bill that strengthens our agricultural safety net, expands market opportunities, and protects American supply chains from foreign influence.
Texas-11’s agricultural producers are fundamental to both our food security and national security. As your representative, I will continue fighting for policies that support and strengthen Texas agriculture. God bless America’s farmers and ranchers!
TAMU Rural Healthcare Program Roundtable
Rural hospitals and clinics play a vital role in our communities, providing essential medical care to many of our friends and neighbors across Texas-11. However, these facilities face significant challenges in keeping their doors open due to low patient volume, workforce shortages, and burdensome regulations.
To address these issues, I convened a roundtable discussion in collaboration with the Texas A&M Rural Medicine Program, a program that aims to increase the number of healthcare providers in rural Texas through enhanced community engagement, implementation of rural physician rotations, and outreach to K-12 students. This event brought together healthcare professionals, health professional students, and community stakeholders to explore ways to revitalize rural medicine.
Initiatives like the Texas A&M Rural Medicine Program embody the innovative, community-based solutions we urgently need. I was particularly inspired by the young high school students eager to pursue a career in rural medicine while contributing to their communities. As your elected representative, I will continue to advocate for policies and initiatives that protect rural hospitals, expand telehealth services, and guarantee that health care is accessible and affordable.
Keynote at Kevin Housley Leadership Forum
I had the honor of speaking to nearly 200 high school students about leadership and the importance of grit and determination in achieving their goals at the Kevin Housley Leadership Forum, which took place at Angelo State University this week. During my address, I emphasized the critical role their voices play in shaping our nation’s future and encouraged them to engage with their local leaders.
The young leaders asked thoughtful questions and demonstrated tremendous enthusiasm for participating in our democratic process. The passion and energy from the students was truly electric; they are not just tomorrow’s leaders—they are making an impact right now. I wish them all the best as they continue their academic journeys and future endeavors.
U.S. Citizen Naturalization Ceremony
This week, I also had the privilege of witnessing ten new Americans take their oath of citizenship in San Angelo, welcoming them as citizens of the greatest country on earth. Legal immigration, the path chosen by these individuals, is one of the pillars on which America was built. Our Founding Fathers regarded the desire to immigrate to America as a source of pride and patriotism, and that is exactly how I felt in the presence of these ten new citizens.
The dedication and perseverance these individuals demonstrated throughout their journey to citizenship is truly inspiring. Each of them has embraced the American Dream, believing in freedom and democracy, and recognizing that America is a nation worth protecting and fighting for.
I look forward to representing these new Americans in Congress. Please join me in congratulating them on this wonderful achievement!
Visiting Classrooms Across Texas-11
While traveling the district this week, I made two stops at classrooms on the campus of Howard Payne University in Brownwood, as well as Junction High School in Kimble County. At both of these stops, I had great discussions with the students on the government’s role in our daily lives and the three branches of the federal government. These students kept me on my toes with their thoughtful questions and conversation. Thank you all for having me!
In Case You Missed It: Brady Town Hall
I appreciate everyone who took the time to come to my town hall in Brady last Friday, where I gave an update on the 119th Congress. I also recognized and presented a Congressional Certificate to Charlie Bush for his many years of dedicated service as a McCulloch County Resource Center Mercantile Shop Volunteer. Charlie is an exceptional volunteer who pays special attention to detail, is willing to do whatever is asked of him, and cares for the people he serves.
Hosting town halls across Texas-11 will always be a priority of mine to better serve the amazing individuals who call this place home. As we work to win back our country in Washington, town halls will continue to serve as excellent opportunities for me to provide firsthand updates and to hear your ideas, concerns, and feedback.
It is truly an honor to represent you all in Congress. Be sure to follow me on Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter)for future town hall events.
