
STEPHENVILLE – Competing with only nine players Saturday, the Brownwood Lady Lions split their first two games at the Stephenville softball tournament
The Lady Lions picked up their second victory of season over 5A Waco University, 3-1, to begin Saturday’s action.
Kaydence Allen belted a two-RBI single just before time expired in the bottom of the fifth inning to propel Brownwood to the victory. Carlee Burks, who walked, and Jeniffer Romero, who singled, scored on the play
The Lady Lions tied the game at 1 in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Hanah Campos that plated Lila Mares, who reached on a fielder’s choice.
Brownwood finished with seven hits as Allen and Romero collected two each along with one apiece from Burks, Campos and Neveah Perez.
Allen also picked up the win in the circle, yielding one run on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks.
In the tournament finale against Boyd, Brownwood fell by a 6-0 count.
The Lady Lions failed to record a hit in six innings, but Romero and Perez each drew a walk.
Meanwhile, Allen surrendered five earned runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Brownwood’s defense committed two errors behind Allen.
The Lady Lions (2-3) are slated to be back in action at 4 p.m. Tuesday as they travel to Coleman
