STEPHENVILLE – The Brownwood Lady Lions opened play in the Stephenville softball tournament Thursday with a 10-3 loss to Class 5A Keller Fossil Ridge.
Fossil Ridge scored all 10 of its runs in the top of the first inning against the Lady Lions (0-2), who responded with all three of their runs in the bottom of the third.
Brownwood finished with seven hits – two each by Carlee Burks and Chloe Walls and one piece by Lila Mares, Kaydence Allen and Tynlea Wilson. Allen recorded a pair of RBIs, while Wilson contributed one.
In the circle, the Lady Lions duo of Wilson and Allen yielded a combined eight earned runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts and six walks.
Brownwood resumes tournament action Friday with games at 12:30 p.m. against Peaster and 4 p.m. against Breckenridge. Then on Saturday, the Lady Lions battle Waco University at 10:45 a.m. and Boyd at 4 p.m.
