Spring is for new beginnings, and if you’re feeling creative, head over to the Brownwood Art Center to take a fun class, with an experienced instructor.
March offerings include a Papermaking Workshop, followed by Painting on Handmade Paper, a 3-session class on Drawing Techniques, a one-day workshop on Elements and Principles of Design Through Doodling, and Ballroom Dancing. All classes are at the Art Center at 215 Fisk.
The Papermaking Workshop is Tues. March 11, 10 am-1 pm, with instructor Christine Brisley. Doors open at 9:45. This is a hands-on learning experience of how to make paper using a few simple supplies. Tuition is $25 for members of the Brownwood Art Association, and $35 for non-members.
Painting on Handmade Paper is Tues. March 18, 10 am-1 pm. Doors open at 9:45. Using the handmade paper that was created the previous week, students will learn how to paint on paper that is uneven and imperfect. Christine will help students use the imperfections to create a unique piece of art. Tuition for both the Papermaking Workshop and Painting on Handmade Paper is $45 for BAA members and $60 for non-members.
Drawing Techniques with June Musick will be on Thursdays, March 13, 20, and 27, from 1-3 pm. The sessions will start with an introduction to media and methods of drawing with pencil, pen, and charcoal, and learning about value, structure, and shapes. Then, techniques using the Stabilo pencil will be covered. Finally, students will make their own drawing from a photo they select, and learn how to critique their own work. Tuition for all 3 sessions is $85 for BAA members, and $100 for non-members.
Elements and Principles of Design Through Doodling will be on Sat. March 22, from 9;30-3;30, including a lunch break. Students may bring a sack lunch or eat at a nearby restaurant. Harriett Nix is the instructor. The Art of Doodling will be used to increase awareness of design in your artwork, using practice miniatures, which will not be finished artwork products. This class is for beginners or any artists who want to review design elements and principles. Tuition is $30 for BAA members, and $40 for non-members.
Ballroom Dance for Beginners is every Tues. evening at 7;30. Door opens at 7:15. Dress is casual, and no partner is required. Learn a variety of styles, including Fox Trot, Waltz, Swing, Salsa, Tango, and more. Instructor is Bill Bradley. Cost is $10 per person per class.
