Pastor Jordan came to Brownwood almost three years ago. His only ties to Brownwood were when he traveled through the small community on his way to Abilene from Austin. When asked what brought him to Brownwood to start a church, he states, “God.” He continues to say, God told him he was to start a church in Brownwood, even though he had no family who resided in the county and had a church in Round Rock. His only family close to Brownwood was in the City of Abilene. Pastor Jordan admits he was nervous about the assignment and prayed long and hard to make sure he clearly heard Gods word.
In 2022, A Breath Of Praise, ABOP opened its doors in Brownwood Tx. Since starting the church, Pastor Jordan and the church have become one with the community. The church is thriving and bringing inspiration and excitement into the community. ABOP has baptized over 80 people in two years; and is the fastest growing African American Church in Brownwood. Opened a Food Pantry for the community; help people recover from drugs and alcohol and remain in sobriety. ABOP has healed marriages and helped to restore broken families. ABOP has a Marriage Counseling ministry to help marriage survive difficult times. Has held multiple Outreach program, such as giving away over 150 new pair of shoes to kids for back to school, and given away free haircuts for the entire community. ABOP organized and hosted Brownwood’s first ever Unity Service, which included City officials, the Chief of Police, HPU president, and multiple Pastors and churches, and community volunteers where over 120 people attended in unity. Each year holds a “Fish Fry” that feeds over 100 people for free to help promote community fellowship. ABOP organized Brownwood’s first ever “Soul Food Extravaganza” for its “Black heritage and culture” in its community. ABOP has gone door to door in our community to evangelize and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ giving those in desperate situations hope for a better tomorrow. They’ve worked with other community entities such as ROC (Revitalizing Our Community) and others to promote community interests. This year they teamed up with the HPU Basketball assistant coach to start a “Adopt a Student” program. Also, in talks with HPU about developing a “Mentorship Program” for students who might want to be in ministry or outreach development.
Pastor Jordan believes the Church is designed by God to be involved in its community and to be a light shining in the darkness of despair, and to forge the future for a better tomorrow for all those exposed to that Light. A community without light is a community in darkness. Pastor Jordan invites all to come and worship at ABOP each Sunday at 10am.
Revitalizing Our Community, thanks Pastor Jordan and the ABOP church for its community outreach and standing with ROC helping to revitalizing the community.
