Trey Jackson, Hudson Johnson and Armonie Ramey all put up at least 20 points to help lead the Howard Payne men’s basketball team past the East Texas Baptist Tigers 119-89 at home Thursday.

Jackson led the Yellow Jackets (10-11, 1-3) with 25 points and four steals. Johnson added 21 points, six assists and four steals and Ramey helped out with 21 points, six rebounds, four assists and seven steals.

Howard Payne did a stellar job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 25 assists while turning the ball over 12 times. Individually, Riley Fornerette dished out the most for the Yellow Jackets with 10 assists.

Howard Payne forced 21 East Texas Baptist turnovers while committing 12 themselves in Thursday’s game. The Yellow Jackets turned those takeaways into 21 points on the offensive end of the floor. Ramey’s seven steals led the way for Howard Payne.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 35-26 advantage, Howard Payne went on a 10-0 run with 6:55 left in the first half to increase its lead to 45-26. The Yellow Jackets then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 59-38 advantage. Howard Payne got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 20 of its 59 total points.

Howard Payne kept its lead intact before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Jackson’s layup, to grow the lead to 79-55 with 14:41 to go in the contest. The Yellow Jackets kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 119-89 win. Howard Payne took care of business in the paint, recording 40 of its 60 points in the lane.
