Welcome back to the weekly Pfluger Fly-By, a collection of events and happenings to keep you updated on everything I am doing week by week to represent you in Congress. I was thrilled to see so many of you from Texas-11 in Washington this week for the 60th Presidential Inauguration. It was an exciting first week with President Trump back in office!
I have included some photos and highlights from this week for you. You can also find information on how my office can help you with any federal problems you may be having. As always, please do not hesitate to contact my office if we can ever be of assistance.
Best,
Inauguration of President Donald J. Trump
I was honored to attend the 60th Presidential Inauguration Ceremony of the United States of America. The ceremony was marked by hope, as we look forward to the renewal of America under President Trump and Vice President Vance. President Trump delivered an inspirational message to the American people during his inaugural address in which he promised that he will make America respected again, prosperous again, and proud again. President Trump doubled down on the promises he made to the American people that will put America first.
For the past four years, Americans have been on the back burner. President Trump has already taken decisive action that will secure our border, unleash American energy, restore competence and effectiveness to our government, demolish censorship, dismantle a flawed government policy of engineering race and gender into everything, and much more. President Trump has heard the cries from the American people who want real change, who want a government that values their safety and well-being over that of illegal aliens or foreign countries. I am eager to work with the President to implement these policies and bring Texas values to Washington, DC. As President Trump said, ‘Our country stands on the verge of the greatest four years in American history.’ It is a new day in America!
Protecting Life in Congress
I am extremely proud to earn an A+ on the Susan B. Anthony List pro-life scorecard for the third year in a row. I will continue to defend the lives of the unborn in Congress and stand against the radical pro-abortion agenda.
As we recognize the annual March for Life being held in Washington this week, House Republicans passed the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. Providing life-saving care to a patient in critical need is commonsense, and this critical legislation will require appropriate medical care for children who survive abortion procedures.
President Trump’s Energy Executive Orders
On his first day in office, President Trump acted on several of his promises to the American people, including his promise to establish American energy dominance. I applaud President Trump for his executive orders to kick-start his America First Agenda and unleash American energy. Read my statement commending President Trump’s energy-focused executive orders below:
Addressing Military Aviation Cancer Rates
As a former fighter pilot, I know first-hand the risks that airmen and women take every time they step into the cockpit. After putting their lives on the line to serve their country, airmen and women deserve assurances that their health will be properly taken care of.
In a recent study, pilots and aircrew were found to have a higher risk of developing cancer or melanoma, which has gone severely unaddressed. Alongside Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) and Senators Tom Cotton (R-AK) and Mark Kelly (D-AZ), I introduced the bipartisan, bicameral Aviator Cancers Examination Study (ACES) Act to address this issue head-on by advancing research on any correlation between aviation and cancer incidences to properly care for and treat our service members.
By better understanding the correlation between aviator service and cancer, we can better assist our military and provide more adequate care for our veterans. Read more about the ACES Act in Task and Purpose article by clicking the link below.
Protecting the Homeland from Cyber Attacks
As Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security’s Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, I questioned private sector cybersecurity professionals during a full-committee hearing to examine cybersecurity threats to the homeland. Several recent cyber threats such as Volt Typhoon, Storm-0558, and Salt Typhoon, have made it clear that the U.S. needs to be better prepared for these cyber threats to protect our precious data.
Congress cannot let this issue go unaddressed or abandon American data privacy. Watch my full line of questioning at the link below.
RSC Meeting with Key House and Senate Leaders
The Republican Study Committee (RSC) hosted Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) and House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Brett Guthrie (R-KY) this week to discuss how the House and the Senate are putting President Trump’s agenda into action.
Senator Hagerty gave RSC members an update on the Senate nominee confirmation process and the importance of quickly confirming President Trump’s nominees. With Chairman Guthrie, RSC members had a lengthy policy discussion on how House Republicans can work together to cut fraud, waste, and abuse in Medicaid.
RSC is in lockstep with the Trump Administration and we will work with our colleagues in the White House to deliver on our promises to the American people.
Energy Security on The Signal Sitdown
This week, I joined The Signal Sitdown Podcast to discuss my plans to unleash American energy, especially in the Permian Basin. During the interview, I emphasized the disaster that the Biden Administration’s energy policies were for districts like mine, and how President Trump will strongly advocate for American energy workers. Safeguarding from Wildfires
Far too many Americans have tragically been victims of the devastation that wildfires can cause, most recently seen in California. To prevent this from happening again, Congress must prioritize effective forest management. This week, I proudly supported the bipartisan Fix Our Forests Act this week to restore forest health, mitigate wildfires, and protect at-risk communities. Passing this legislation through the House of Representatives this week brings us one step closer to preventing future fires nationwide. Let us all continue to pray for those whom the wildfires in California have impacted as they begin to rebuild their communities.
